What to plant after potatoes

Postby jeanht on Wed Jun 04, 2008 6:45 am

I really want to try and keep all the beds full this year (NY resolution etc!). My potatoes are flowering now so I guess they will be lifted quite soon. What can I put in after them?

I have the following already (and therefore don't need more): tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, peppers, beans, peas, more beans, onions, lettuce, beetroot

Is it too late for courgettes? If necessary I can try and buy plants. Otherwise what about broccoli, cauliflower and carrots?

I just don't know what should follow on!

I'd go for a spring broccoli like purple sprouting which you could start in pots now and pot on till the plot's ready (firm the ground well after digging up the potatoes though) or possibly even some carrots - there are some faster growing varieties available and you should beat the first frosts - and there's always fleece covering if you do get unlucky...
