Selling from the roadside

Postby Carriganass on Sun Mar 01, 2009 10:54 pm

Well we are just back from our holidays and seem to be overrun with eggs, from 9 layers we are getting 8-9 per day!
I had the idea of making a roadside honesty box and selling surplus eggs from there to try and offset the high price of (organic) feedstuff.
Does anyone have any info on the requirements of such roadside schemes?
Can I call the eggs organic? or will I get a visit from officialdom?

Selling by the roadside

Postby sausagesandcash on Sun Mar 01, 2009 11:51 pm

AS I recall you can't sell from the side of the road, i.e. the tarmac laybay, but I believe you can if you situate your stall on the grass margin. Hope that helps.

You could ask your local Gardai, but try and ask a Traffic Corps Sergeant...they always know. You could always try it, following the guidlines above, and you shouldn't encounter any problems.

Go for it! I was told by the dept that I can sell from my garden gate.

You can call your eggs 'from organically fed chickens'.

Thanks for the info, I see that you can sell eggs from the roadside but they cannot be packed according to EU rules blah blah.
I suppose if I provide old egg boxes people can pack themselves.
