Soay sheep - any breeders in Ireland?

Soay sheep - any breeders in Ireland?

Hiya,
I'm fascinated by this breed of sheep: http://www.soaysheep.org/gallery_stkilda.html Are there any breeders here or will I have to buy from the UK? It won't be for a while. I'm just gaining info at this stage.

I don't know but when I was researching sheep breeds I found a list of Irish breeds and breeders on either the Teagasc for Dept of Agriculture website.

It's also worth looking up UK breed websites and checking the Northern Ireland breeders lists.

I was interested in the beautiful Hampshire Down sheep breed myself. I was wondering about the feasibility of having a ewe and keeping her in with my goats.
Visit our rural Irish smallholding at www.sallygardens.typepad.com where we move smoothly from one crisis to the next and teach others how to do the same!

Couldn't find what I was looking for on those websites. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place? I did find some animal farms here that have some Soay sheep so I don't suppose they would mind a phone call to see if they have any for sale or know of any local breeders (Later! Haven't ok'd it with our landlord yet!).
The Hampshire Down is one big breed of sheep! I reckon a Ewe would be able to hold her own among goats! Lovely!
I love the look of the Teeswater too.

Hi Kirstie,

If you are still looking for Soay sheep I have been in touch with a chap in West Cork that breeds them, please get in touch if you require his details.
Best wishes

Oh brilliant, thanks Morag. I am desperately looking for land to rent at the moment - it's like looking for a needle in a haystack - what's that saying? 'Water, water everywhere but not a drop to spare'? If I get somewhere I'll be in touch.
