Just returned from Pig Paradise, Wiltshire, England with my new little Kune Kune boar (Lugless Douglas as hes now known) and we hope he will get to know my little gilt very well!!! They are both registered with the Kune Kune society in England and I hope they have piglets before the end of the year. Also brought over 2 Mangalitza sows, both in pig and both due on the 12th of July. If anyone is interested in these paricular breeds of pig I would be delighted to hear from you.

Congrats on the Mangalitzas, first in Ireland. For anybody who doesn't know what they look like take a look here http://www.pigparadise.com/curly.html at some fantastic pictures. They are curley long haired pigs, something to behold. They are gorgeous.

Morhogs; when they go to slaughter how does the butcher deal with all that hair? Do they have to skin them? Our abattoir isn't impressed with our Gloucestershire Old Spots and they don't have much hair in comparison, they often want to charge us extra. I hate getting pigs skinned because it's such a shame to lose the crackling.

What characteristics do they have ; are they diggers or grazers? Any other traits specific to that breed?

I shall add your details in the breeders section of our ebooklet.

The mangalitza piglets were due last saturday however we are still waiting for the patter of tiny trotters. After consulting the breeder in England there appears to be a bit of confusion regarding the due dates and we now have the 16th of August as the revised date. The suspense is growing.

Will keep you posted

We had our two ladies in waiting scanned yesterday and unfortunately our swallow bellied appears not to be in pig which is very disappointing however we saw a number of piglets from the red Mangalitza,s scan, so we look forward to August 16th as the new revised due date.
We are now searching the U.K. for a suitable boar to continue the breeding programme.

At last the waiting is over and the red Mangalitza produced 6 beautiful piglets this afternoon, the first to be born in Ireland. They are all feeding well and very active, mother is so good and is having a well deserved rest.

The piglets look like wild boar with the characteristic stripes and the long snouts, it looks like we will have 2 blonds and 4 reds but I,m not sure how their colours will change as they mature.

Off to open a bottle of red now!!!

It is so nice to find others so interested in this lovely breed.

We are just starting out with the breed here in France with our Swallowbellies, and hope to become part of the larger Mangalitza community. I have just started a forum for owners and enthusiasts which I would invite you to take a peek at and if you like it then please join us. It is very lonely for us few here in France and there is so much knowledge out there that we can all tap in to.

I hope admin don't mind me posting this, thanks in advance.

We have a website, www.mangalitzas.webs.com/

and our forum address is www.mangalitzafr.forumotion.net

Looking forward to seeing you on there!

I am eagerly searching for some authentic Mangalitza pork recipies to try out when our boy gets old enough. I have found one, but having to rely on tradtional Hungarian pork recipies for now. So any additions would be most welcome!
