Hi Morag
We are currently building our new house on 6.5 acres of land which we intend to use as a small holding. Currently we keep pygmy goats but i am very interested in keeping an unusual breed of pig and the mangalitzas or possibly kune kune are just that. At present i have my flock numbers for sheep and goats but i am building outhouses to keep our growing menagerie. I intend when we have the outhouse built shortly to apply for the appropriate holding number for keeping pigs. Basically, we live in Northern Ireland and although i have not contacted defra yet to check out importing regs. for pigs, (as with goats etc from England there are no imports allowed) i understand pigs are different with the bluetongue issue. I am putting the cart before the horse as i only joined the site today and saw the advert so thought i would ask if you have any knowledge of sending animals up north. I would be very keen to purchase animals if the department application is successful and what price the animals would be? Would it be possible to pay a visit to see the pigs as i would love to see these fascinating animals whether defra allow importation or not. I look forward to your reply.
