hi, we have got 4 new chicks which are now nearly 6 weeks old (approx), 2 white leghorns and 2 marans. One of the leghorns, which is looking very like a rooster is being pecked and feathers removed, have caught the smallest of the marans at it afew tims and he is yelping when she does it. I removed the offending maran today just to give him a bit of peace and only allowed her back into the outside run with the rest for the last hour or so...dont know whether this is right/advisable but just wanted to give him a bit of respite. Have never come across this in our other chooks, but after checking online I am looking for a wound powder and/or violet spray that seems to be effective. Only found UK sellers and obviously timous to post if they will even do it to Ireland. Does anyone have some for sale, can recommend something similar that I can buy or can tellme somewhere here that I can buy it...phew!!
Such a shame for this poor boy, going to try vinegar in their water, that seemed to be another remedy for pecking!! thanks

We had a duck that terrorised the chickens and we resolved the problem by taking him out the main body of the kirk and put him in solitory confinment for over a week this gave the others the respite they needed and allowed the group to re-establish themselves so when we returned the offending duck back to the main group he had been relagated to the bottom of the pecking order and he did not bother the chickens, I still keep a close eye on him. The chickens feathers grew back quite quickly with no need for any treatment.
