Ideas for a very small pond?

Postby Egirl on Sun Jun 22, 2008 1:37 pm

Hi guys,

Looking to introduce a small pond to the garden, to encourage frogs and other insects. It will have to be off the ground, probably on a pedestal of some sort, for safety (I have small children) and due to lack of space.

Has anyone any ideas how this might be achieved? I was thinking if I could get my hands on an old Belfast sink, propped up on cinder blocks or similar..... or maybe one of those pedestal planters?

I also would appreciate advice on what to put in it, should I plant it or just let nature do it's work? would some gravel in the bottom help? No experience of ponds as you might have guessed so any help is appreciated, and vital!!

Thanks in advance.

Hi Yea,
there are lots of wall mounted "water features" around, basically a small pump built into a fiberglass antique looking wall plate which you just plug in but you could extend the bowl part to allow of frogs etc.

Thanks for that, I saw one in the garden centre which is small and solar powered, it might do for my west facing wall which is bright and sunny. I can't spend a lot and don't have a lot of space but I think it would be nice to have some water in the garden.

I'll try it & let you know!
