Herbs to Boost Childs Immune System - Hospitalised

Postby sallygardens on Tue Mar 25, 2008 3:09 pm

Hi

You may know from my blog that my 4 year old daughter has been in hospital. She had an infection in her leg called cellulitis, caused by a stafflococci infection (not sure of spellings!). The infection had swollen the top half of her leg like a balloon within 24 hours of receiving her mmr booster injection. Initially I thought it was an allergy or reaction to the injection, but luckily I brought her to a local GP who immediately sent her to hospital where the infection was confirmed.

It took 5 days of iv antibiotics to get the infection under control. This is the 2nd time she has had this staf infection. She also had it 3 years ago, aged 18 months, on her shoulder.

Normally the immune system deals with this type of bacteria which is present on everybodies skin but perhaps theres an underlying reason why my little girl has been very ill with it, twice. Tests are to be done on her immune system in a few weeks time.

I wondered if anybody with knowledge of herbs has any tips that might help boost her immune system. I have started her on Echinaceae, high dose vitamin C and I'm adding a couple of drops of Tea Tree to her bathwater.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Rebecca, I hope your little girl is fully recovered by now. Have you tried giving her garlic tablets, or plenty of garlic in her diet? I know it's been used since time immemorial for fighting infections etc. I swear by it as a preventative for colds and other infections.

I've had a couple of bouts of cellulitus and it's not pleasant. Poor little thing!

thanks egirl, we are actually garlic fiends and there's rarely a meal that doesn't contain it in our house! Love the stuff.

Have just been to a homeopath and will see what that turns up.
