Hi there .glad to have joined the forum ,I have been reading the various posts in the last few weeks and was glad to find an Irish source of useful info. and look forward to contributing.

We have at present a typical country bungalow on 3/4 of an acre on which we have a poly tunnell and a garden which supplies us with veg.

we have benn keeping hens for a few years and will have some broilers in the next few days.

I have applied for a pig herd number so hopefully we can get that up and running in the near future.

pigs

Hi Briano,

Welcome.

We started keeping pigs a few years ago and we haven't looked back, they are great fun to have around the place, although there have been times when they have tested our patience to the limit and beyond!!
We keep them as a hobby and for the freezer (would not buy shop bought pork again) It is a constant learning curve and a very absorbing interest.
We started breeding them last year and now have 2 sows "in pig" this year. We keep our pigs outdoors all year round even in the Irish Summers!!!
Good luck with your piggie venture, I'm sure it won't be long before you get the herd no.
