Alternative Treatment for Worms

Postby sallygardens on Thu Feb 21, 2008 4:45 pm

I know that ivomectin is recommended for worming goats but what do other people use as an alternative, if anything. And how often do you worm your goats?

I've read a lot about Verm-x, a herbal based treatment, but not used it myself. www.verm-x.com What do you think about making up our own herbal treatments using garlic etc?

I'm also interested in getting a microscope so I can test droppings for worm eggs, therefore if not infested no treatment is needed. That saves money, but also avoids using ivomectin to which worms become immune over time.

I use rotation grazing too, moving the goats from one area to the next every 6 weeks. This breaks the life cycle of many parasitic worms, reducing the need to worm.
